DESCRIPTION: James C. Cole, Rochester, NH, tall clock, 8 days, time, strike and calendar, weight driven brass movement with typical New Hampshire cut outs in a cherry case with applied bracket base and an American painted iron dial, c1815
CONDITION: the case has been professionally refinished. The glass in the hood and the side of the hood have a crack. The dial frame, fretwork and finial plinths are replacements. The dial is in very good condition. The second hand is replaced. The tin can weights are original. There are two pieces of paper pasted into case describing very early provenance (see photos). This lineage proves to be authentic as John Marston III, son of John Marston, Jr. and Olive (Sargeant) Marston, was born May 7, 1783 at Metheun, Mass., He and wife Susanna had a son Joseph Marston, b. Feb. 25, 1829 at Jefferson, Maine. The family afterwards settled at Salem, NH where John Marston died Apr. 25, 1865. Joseph Marston married and lived at Metheun, MA and died between 1910 and 1920. This is a good example of a signed New Hampshire tall case clock. Ht 90"
